Barbara M. Cowherd is a graduate of the University of Central Florida (B.A. 1998) and an honors graduate of the Stetson University College of Law (J.D. 2000), where she served as an officer of the Moot Court Board, and was the Teaching Assistant for Civil Procedure and Research Assistant to the Dean.

Ms. Cowherd currently serves as President (2010-11) of the Stetson Lawyers Association and also serves as the SLA’s liaison to the Board of Overseers for the College of Law. Ms. Cowherd also chairs the SLA Advisory Council, which works for the advancement of the law school, working to improve the overall effectiveness of the College of Law. The Board of Overseers counsels, advises and assists the Dean of the College of Law and the President of the University in the development of the program of legal education and of financial and other resources. Ms. Cowherd is a frequent panelist and speaker on the issue of Professionalism as a Lawyer.

Ms. Cowherd was admitted to practice in Florida in 2001 and is also admitted to the bar of the U.S. District Court, Middle District of Florida (2001). Her practice includes litigation and appeals in both state and federal court, and she has experience in a variety of civil litigation matters, including complex commercial litigation, ADEA and ADA litigation, and litigation involving claims of sexual misconduct, commercial and private liability, as well as probate, landowner liability, personal injury, nursing home and medical malpractice litigation. Prior to becoming an attorney, Ms. Cowherd was a litigation paralegal for more than 25 years.
